**Twelve Trials of Triskelion Ficlet Challenge** by Miranda Fave [Responses - 13] [Report This]
Summary:

Rules: Stories must be between 100-500 words. You may write them in advance, but you must post one a day, for a maximum of seven stories and seven days. If only one person does it, we will allow two extra days to complete the challenge. No co-authoring for this challenge.  They can be standalone or in a series.

 

Ficlets must be posted to the archive, not the forums.

 

Under this topic, please comment with your links each day.  Again, you must post one a day.  Every day.  For the whole week.

Voting will be one day only, on Sunday the 25th of May, or two days later if there needs to be an extension. If there's only one entry, then there will only be one winner.

Summary:

Your worthy winner last time round was jespah. Her story won her the right to offer the new monthly challenge and to have her story featured on the archive's front page. jespah raised the most smiles in April's challenge and now this time round she asks us to show forgiveness. Here's the challenge she presents:

To err is human, but ...

Your characters have done wrong, and have made mistakes. Everyone does. So let them off the hook, and forgive your characters.

The challenge is about forgiveness - achieving it, giving it or maybe even withholding it.

I think you'll agree, a thought provoking and interesting challenge that should create a lot of interesting storytelling possibilities. We'll run the challenge until May 31st and then voting will open. Good luck to all who participate.

Summary:

Lil black dog won our last challenge and offered this challenge as a choice:

Something in honor of April Fool’s Day.  Show one of your characters (or several) with mischief on their minds.  Perhaps they pull practical jokes on friends, family, shipmates, roommates, etc.  Just a moment of levity when the demands and pressures of (starship) life are forgotten for a moment.

So raise a smile, give us a chuckle, bring a little levity to the situation. Have at it, and have fun. Challenge will run until April 30th.

Summary:

 

Last month's winner Lil black dog bestowed the honour of naming the challenge to Gildir who proposed:

I'd like to see a challenge about CRIME -- theft, smuggling, piracy, or worse things -- any kind of crime that the Star Trek characters of the various generations might come up against.

The challenge is to tell a story that features crime, whether the heroes are trying to stop, solve, commit or get away with perpetrating the crime.

February/March 2013 Challenge -- Paths Not Taken by Miranda Fave [Responses - 6] [Report This]
Summary:

Our winner Mackenzie Calhoun has thrown down the following challenge sure to get a few brain cells in a flurry of activity. The challenge is a sort of 'what if?' scenario, almost an alternate universe type deal.

Where we would see our characters if they had not become a captain, a CMO etc. i.e I unexpectedly saw Kirk ranching cattle in Iowa or Beverly as a major playwright/actress.

So there's the deal, write your characters canon or original and put them on a path not taken, maybe diverged from an important turning point in their lives, perhaps things take a better turn or perhaps a turn for the worse with the new path they do take. It's an interesting challenge for sure but also a difficult one but one with lots of possibilities.

January 2013 Challenge -- Getting Politcal by Miranda Fave [Responses - 3] [Report This]
Summary:

Jean-Luc Picard was our esteemed winner and as our new dictator he has thrown down the following challenge:

My idea is politics, one of our "FORBIDDEN TOPICS!!!" They're never going to go away, even into the 24th Century. How do our characters pick who to lead the Federation or participate in the illusion of freedom within the Romulan Empire? Do they remain active at the local level? Can they truly shape the future of their nation?

A novel and different challenge for sure but take the theme of politics, apply it to your story setting and era and possibly even create a little bit of world building. Or it might just be two crewmembers/captains discussing the merits or demerits of some political situation. Whatever your spin on it just make politics a part of the theme.

Obviously, and it really goes without saying but it would be remiss of me not to do so, keep real life politics out of it and don't worry about drawing any parallels and/or stating anything explicity. Make it about the story.  Discussion thread HERE.

Your challenge is to write about the past - the past lives of our characters or the far past of the Trekverse. Write about the early space travel days of Earth or any Trek race; write about past events in a character's life; write about a character's ancestors; write about a character thrown into their past, their history.

The challenge handed to us from the bluesman for this month is: Burdens of Command

Command has its rewards and recognition, but it also has challenges, stress and sacrifice. Remember Pike speaking to Boyce with a martini? Thats what this challenge is about. Oh now for the fun part...stories must have leaders below the rank of Captain. So first Officers, departments heads, instructors, crew chiefs, tech sgts, Lieutenants, ensisgns, administrators are all game. No Captains, Commodores, Admirals or Fleet Captains.

November/December 2012 Challenge -- Family by Miranda Fave [Responses - 8] [Report This]
Summary:

Our winner jespah has handed us this fitting challenge:

This time of year, family becomes a very, very big deal. Those who are gone, those who are invited wherever, those who are annoying, etc. And for those who don't have genetic family, there's also the substitute family of friends, many of whom are loved no less (and perhaps are loved even more). Hence let's make the challenge stories about families, in all their messy, dysfunctional, loving, inside-jokey glory.

So there you. Have at it and remember that we have given this challenge an extended deadline so that it will cover the holiday period - allowing people to have time with their families! ;) So we'll end the challenge at the end of December and open polling thereafter for the submitted stories.

Any comments, questions, suggestions, cross pollination of ideas and if you even want to brainstorm your submission you can do it all here in this thread. Good luck to one and all and bless your families and your character's families.

Our glorious winner of the August challenge was Enterprise1981. Hurray and huzzah for a great offering by all and a great winner. Enterprise1981 offers the following for this month's challenge:

Moments of transition. As one door closes, another opens. Everyone faces new challenges and new crises, especially politicians and military leaders, whether its the Federation after winning the Dominion War, Federation-Klingon relations immediately after the signing of the Khitomer Accords, or new personal challenges after graduation, marriage, promotion, etc.

There you go. I think you'll agree that it's an interesting challenge that should provide lots of different spins on the idea. Go here to the discussion thread. Good luck to one and all.
