The friendship of Jim Kirk and Spock of Vulcan is the stuff of legend.  But how would Spock’s life have been different if he had never joined Starfleet, instead following the wishes of his father and accepting a position at the Vulcan Science Academy?  Spock, T'Pring, Amanda, I'Chaya, OC.  Written for the ‘Paths Not Taken’ challenge.

There had to be more fallout between Kirk and Spock in the wake of Amok Time than we ever saw on screen.  After all, one isn’t almost strangled to death by your best friend – or almost strangles your best friend to death – without repercussions, right?  In sickbay both were still shell-shocked by how things had turned out, but what happened later, when each had time to really think about what had transpired?  Each would have their own hurdles and emotional baggage to overcome. How could either learn to trust the other – or himself – ever again?

I know this has been done to death, but this is my spin on what Kirk felt during Spock’s death in TWOK, and how it fits with my personal canon.  Essentially a H/C piece, heavy on the hurt, with virtually no comfort.
