Wow, very nicely done.
An introspective tale, with a lot of depth for such a short story. This is an excellent character study on the narrator, as well as a wonderful window onto the mentorship of a young officer by a veteran captain.
Author's Response: Thanks! :)

Absolutely enjoyable from start to finish.
I've already marked this as my most anticipated new fan fiction series. No pressure.
Author's Response: Oooh! A fan! Move over, Sydney, I'm not sure I can live up to such high expectations, either. ;)
Thanks for reading! :)

Oh my God. I adored this! Incredibly poignant tale, and I don't know about the others, but I like Sutek very much and I think he's doing an excellent job at training young officers. There were several moments here that made my day, and "Impressive" was one of them. God, it's really beautiful.
I love your style, easy flowing, weaving words with casual elegance, without distracting the reader from the essentials. The humor, the irony. Pretty painting words, too, for I could easily see certain scenes as if I was watching them, not reading.
I'd love to see more of this storyline. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story!
Author's Response: Wow! Thanks for reading! :)
I was hoping Sutek didn't come across too strongly; I really enjoy working with him and I'm learning more about him everyday. He was supposed to be only a backstory character, but he demanded his time in the sun and his development exploded. You'll be seeing more of him, fairly soon if I stop being lazy!
As for the storyline, this is just the beginning. :)

Sutek sounds hard ass, hard core. Really intriguing. I'm left wondering a the need of this is there more to come? Is it part of a universe/series? Will we see whether or not Sydney goes on to become the promising captain, the Vulcan believed Sydney would become?
I felt this was a nice thought process revealed to us, only natural as a ship comes to the end of its career and with everyone moving on, many in new directions.
Author's Response: Sutek is definitely hardcore, but that's not his only side. Yes, we'll see what becomes of Sydney, as this is just the beginning. Thanks for reading! :)
