Summary: "Don't fight a battle if you don't gain anything by winning."- Erwin Rommel

Fall, 2375: The Dominion is at its limits. Starfleet and its allies have nearly succeeded in pushing back the enemy and completing a noose around Cardassian space. Just outside the Kalandra Sector, a new Dominion offensive has hit the so-called "Muslim colonies" in an attempt to reach the Core Worlds. The USS Rommel is one of the ships that is heading for the frontline to drive back the enemy into their rapidly shrinking space.

Summary:

Thirty-years have passed since the end of the Dominion War. As each major power in the Alpha Quadrant bide their time to recover from the devastation that the war has left them in, the Federation soon becomes ready to commission a new experimental ship and crew to take on the challenges of the 25th century. Commanding the new Aegis-class starship, the Dragonfly, is Captain Darren Seth, a young, ambitious human male and graduate of Red Squad. Armed with a unique crew and dizzying new technologies, the captain and his crew are called on their first mission to Draloos IV, a planet in the outskirts of Federation space with a human populous. The populous has reported a sudden halt in its biomatter harvest from its neighboring planet, Draloos V. The crew discovers a troubling new non-humanoid species of high intelligence and cunning on Draloos V, and discovers that the human populous has been robbing the planet of its resources and inadvertently harming the aliens in the process. The crew must make a dreadful choice to try and combat the angered species, or force the starvation on an already desperate human population.

Summary:

In the spirit of fun and adventure I humbly extend a challenge to the many fine writers of Ad Astra: Write a story that is within the universe of Unsung Heroes. It’s a round robin event organized as an open series meaning that you can post your own stories to the series, the various stories adding together like the chapters of a book. Prequel, sequel, TNG mirror universe – the galaxy’s the limit!

The instructions are simple. Read Star Trek HQ first and then come up with your own story that plays within the same ‘virtual sandbox’. Some good ideas for additional stories might be: ‘What did Amy do next?’, or, ‘What happened to Doctor Dunmore when he returned to Starfleet Command?’

And what of our new enemy? Although little is known about him, his powers of creation and destruction are very real. Originating from an entirely new faction of the Borg, it appears that the collective has changed its views on the importance and role of the individual. Can this Borg Homunculus – this drone that is not a drone – spawn entire new cubes faster than Starfleet can scream retreat?

If you send an email to pengraff@telus.net and request The Unsung Heroes Technical Guide I’ll send you some important information on how the technology that tried to save Commander Worf worked. Your story does not need to use any of this technology – it’s available merely as technical backstory that you might find useful.

I hope it’s as much fun for you as it has been for me!

Summary: Early in the 25th Century, several diminutive hand-carved idols begin to disappear from small-time dealers, collectors and museums across the Beta Quadrant. No one really takes notice of the issue as the idols were not considered very valuable.

In contrast, another set of idols – priceless rarities by all accounts – actually begin to appear on planets to which the UFP had never ventured - at least that’s what the UFP thought until it’s discovered that the idols discovered on those “uncharted” planets actually belonged to one Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

The Daystrom Institute’s best and brightest archaeologist, Dr. William T. (Bill) Riker, Jr. is summoned to the outskirts of Klingon territory to investigate the strange discoveries, but before he can undertake solving the mystery the political foundation of the quadrant is shaken when word is received that the Thraiin militia have assassinated the Romulan Praetor. Worse, the Federation Ambassador to the Romulan Star Empire – Bill's mother – is reported as missing immediately following the melee.

One clue arises; a small, practically worthless black idol appears mysteriously in his quarters with a hint that it will lead him to his mother, and the discovery that the little black idols were not as worthless as once thought…and in the hands of the wrong people, they could lead to the destruction of the Romulan Star Empire and threaten the existence of the UFP itself.

Summary:

In the year 2388, after the loss of Ambassador Spock and Romulus, the Federation is on the verge of war with what's left of the Romulan Empire. The work done since the Shinzon Crisis of 2379 has evaporated away into nothingness, and the Federation is bracing itself for the inevitable.

However, four Starfleet cadets, in an attempt to prevent war and save the day, decide to rescue Spock, and take a journey back in time to find the Vulcan.

But all goes amiss when the cadets arrive years ahead of Spock in 2210, and are captured by the Starfleet of that time. The consequences of this action changes the entire mindset of Starfleet and the Federation from that point on... history is never the same again.

In 2259, the newly christened USS Farragut, under the command of Captain Steve Garrovick, is launched and is conducting shakedown tests with the Enterprise. Garrovick and Kirk both share a history with each other, but both men must overcome their mutual dislike and find out how to stop a new Klingon supership. The secrets they discover will forever alter their perceptions of what happened to the Kelvin in 2233 and what happened to Vulcan only a year earlier.

Summary: The dying years of the 24th century.

After defeating the Dominion and ending the threat of the Borg, the member worlds of the United Federation of Planets may well have hoped to finally find peace. After the dramatic destruction of Romulus, though, chaos seems destined to wrack the Alpha and Beta Quadrants for the forseeable future.

As both the Romulan and Klingon Empires draw ever closer to total collapse, a single man escapes from one of Starfleet’s few high security prisons and gathers a group of mismatched thieves, hackers and conmen to pull off the coup of the century: steal from Section 31 itself…

The players:

The Mastermind

Jules: A mysterious man with a shadowy past, his motivations for wanting to steal from Section 31 are as shaded as his knowledge of covert operations.

The Grifters

Eloria: A Kriosian empathic metamorph with a genetic fault that prevents her from imprinting a final mate, she has found her place in the galaxy as a high-class escort… and a formidable con artist.

Laezar: A Chameloid male serving a term in a Klingon prison, he has links to Section 31 and may hold the key to deciphering their final goal.

The Muscle

Ki’mel: A female half-Romulan, half-Klingon, she is a descendant of the Carraya IV settlement, trained in the fighting ways of many Alpha and Beta Quadrant races.

The Thief

Tag: A young Ferengi male with no lobes for business but a talent for pickpocketing and elaborate theft.

The Hacker

Elim Dejar: A former operative of the Obsidian Order with a few financial problems and a very angry bounty hunter on his trail.

As their plan unfolds, though, every single one of them will realise that they are wading in waters too deep to handle, and facing a chilling secret that could see the unravelling of the Alpha Quadrant itself...
